Now that you have your Patch you are probably wondering how do I attach it to my denim jacket, dressing gown or other item of clothing for my big do!

So we thought we would write out a few options for you but you may be a dab hand with sewing machine or well practiced in crafting or you may even have a friend that can do it for you and  in which case you won’t need our blog! but just in case please see some options below.

We've also dropped Some links at the end of this blog for glues and sticky fabric tape to help with your customisation.

What You'll Need:

  • Your handmade felt 20cm patch

  • A denim jacket or dressing gown

  • Needle and thread (matching or contrasting, depending on the look you want) OR fabric glue for embellishments (suitable for your fabric type)

  • Scissors

  • Pins (optional, but helpful for securing the patch)

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Positioning: Place your patch on the desired location of your jacket or dressing gown. Consider where it will have the most impact.

  2. Securing (Sewing):

    • If using pins, secure the patch in place.

    • Thread your needle and tie a knot at the end.

    • Starting from the back of the fabric, bring the needle through to the front edge of the patch.

    • Use a simple running stitch or a blanket stitch around the entire edge of the patch, ensuring you catch both the patch and the fabric of the garment.

    • Once you've stitched all the way around, tie off the thread securely on the inside of the garment.

  3. Securing (Fabric Glue):

    • Ensure the fabric of your garment is clean and dry.

    • Apply a thin, even layer of fabric glue to the back of the patch.

    • Carefully position the patch onto the garment and press down gently but firmly.

    • Allow the glue to dry completely according to the manufacturer's instructions (this may take several hours).

  4. Securing ( Fusible Interfacing):

Fusible interfacing is a material with a gluey coating that, when activated by heat, bonds to fabric, allowing you to attach patches without sewing.

Here's how to use fusible interfacing to attach a patch:

  • 1. Prepare the patch:If you have a patch without a fusible backing, you can attach fusible interfacing to the back of the patch using a heat-setting iron.

  • 2. Position the patch:Place the patch on the garment where you want it to be.

  • 3. Heat activation:Use a heat-setting iron to activate the fusible coating on the interfacing, bonding it to the garment.

  • 4. Cool and secure:Let the patch cool and then secure it further with stitches, especially around the edges if needed.

Styling Tips:

  • Denim Jacket: Pair your patched denim jacket with jeans, a skirt, or even over a dress for a cool and casual celebratory look. Add some sparkly accessories to amp up the festive vibe.

  • Dressing Gown: Let the patch be the star! Wear it while getting ready with your bridal party, or for a fun and cosy birthday morning.
